Bridge to Terabitha by Katherine Paterson

This week I started reading Bridge to Terabitha. It came out as a movie not too long ago and I've always been curious about it so I figured this was as good of a time as any to read it.

So far it really hasn't been at all like what I expected. I thought it was going to be another one of those situations where a person finds a hidden tunnel or something that leads them to an alternate world. In this book I've met the two main characters and learned some about their lives but so far Terabitha seems to be an imaginary place rather than an alternate world they go to visit. Of course, I'm only about half way through the book so there's still time for my prediction to come to fruition. I'm curious to see if it will, or if the author has other surprises for her readers. This book has a lot to do with relationships. Jesse's relationship with his sisters, his mother and his father as well as his relationship with his school mates and Leslie. It also touches on Leslie's relationship with her parents. Terabitha seems to be an escape from all of those relationships except the bond between Jesse and Leslie which seems to be the only non-strained relationship in this book so far. It will be interesting to see where Katherine Paterson goes with this or if I am completely misreading into this book.
